When my World of Warcraft trial account expired late last month, I figured it was a fun experiment that I was done with. Who would have thunk that I’d actually end up missing it not two days later, and activating a full-fledged account?
I now control a Level 39 gnome mage, with some pretty kick-ass armor and nifty spells. I’ve joined a guild, and they help me not be so useless. I also get to run around and kill beasts with my buddy JohnnyMags, who keeps me healed while I fire off my Arcane missles (complete with “pewpewpew” sound effect) and he takes out the enemy with his own brand of magic.
I guess you can be a casual fan and still have fun. While I still don’t know most of the lingo and very much feel like a “n00b”, it’s a nifty way to pass the time.

I posted this from my brand-new laptop, purchased after an unfortunately-timed incident involving the old laptop, Mina, and a pint of Guinness. I have learned my lesson.

My 10-day trial WoW account expired today, with good ol’ Rockworth a 16th-level Mage on his way back to Stormwind to return some guy’s compass. It was great fun and an interesting view into the game that my friends have such a great time with. Now, back to my other time wasters.

So, some friends coerced me into giving it a shot. I have to admit, I’m having a bit of fun.
I’m a gnome mage named Rockworth. I figured I’d go with a short guy who’s mechanically inclined to go with the whole “fantasy” thing. I’ve taken up skinning and leatherwork and have gotten to the point where I can make some basic armor.
I’ve learned some nifty spells, but as I feared, I think I’ve gotten as far as I can without “teaming up” with some other folks to complete some of my quests, because I keep getting my ass handed to me by some of the creatures I’m being sent to vanquish.
Yes, you keep asking me what server I’m on, and I keep forgetting to check. I want to say “Duskwood”, but I think that’s wrong. And I have yet to figure out how I get the “proficiency” to wear leather armor, because I think that may be contributing to the ass-whippings I’m taking.
All in all, it’s kinda neat. . .but I don’t know if I’ll live past the 10-day free trial. . .
